forward explicit congestion notification (FECN)

The Forward Explicit Congestion Notification (FECN) is a signaling bit in the frame relay header that is generated by the end device or the network and indicates that the network is congested or congestion is likely in the direction of the transmitted frame. This is part of the header of a frame relay frame. The overload mechanism is triggered by setting a bit in the header.
