foreign network

In IETF terminology, a foreign network is a network that is visited by a mobile device, a mobile node( MN).

In the context of the term foreign network, this refers to the reachability of a mobile device when it is in another subnet or moves from one subnet to the next. The mobile device must be reachable in all subnets or foreign networks under its permanent IP address from the home network( HN).

To ensure this, Mobile-IP uses the care-of address( CoA), a temporary IP address that is reassigned each time the device moves to a different foreign network.
