flow label
The flow label field is a 20-bit long data field in the header of IPv6.
The flow label function is associated with an identification of a data stream consisting of contiguous data packets with identical sender and receiver. Data packets within the data stream may have their own characteristics regarding priority or quality of service and therefore require their own treatment. By means of the flow label function, such special treatments can be performed by routers, for example.
