floating car data (navigation) (FCD)

FCD technology (Floating Car Data) is a telematics service used in automotive technology, in which vehicles are used as mobile acquisition units for determining traffic data.

The position is determined using a GPS system and dynamic data such as driving speed is recorded using sensors. The motor vehicle itself can be regarded as a mobile telematics system that transmits the data on position and traffic status to the control center or, in the case of car-to-car communication( C2C), to other vehicles via mobile networks. The FCD data goes to the digital traffic radio (TMCpro), among others, which takes it into account in its status messages.

Floating Car Data (FCD) and Extended Floating Car Data(XFCD) enable new services such as dynamic destination guidance and local hazard warnings.
