flexible multiplexer (FMUX)

Flexible multiplexers (FMUX) are network components in SDH networks with which several input lines with different transmission rates are switched to one output line, whereby the transmission rate of the output line corresponds to the sum of the transmission rates of the input lines. Such flexible multiplexers are used in access networks and combine several subscriber lines into one high-bit-rate data line.
