firefox

Firefox is a web browser based on Mozilla. It was first introduced in 2002, when it was first called Phoenix, named after the US state of the same name. After two name changes, the open source browser was introduced to the market in 2004 under the name Mozilla Firefox. Functionally, it is a relatively slim browser optimized for speed, which neither supports an e-mail client nor an HTML editor.

Firefox was released in several languages in the first version and is equipped with various security features. Thus, the download of harmful spyware and spam mails is prevented, as well as the display of pop-up ads. Further comprehensive security functions that can be activated according to individual needs ensure undisturbed online business.

Firefox allows the simultaneous display of several web pages in one window. The search functions of various search engines can be called up in the toolbar. The user can configure this himself by adding own function keys and extensions with new features. The latest news headlines can be read directly via the integrated RSS feed. Bookmarks, full screen and text zooming are further functions of Firefox.

In a newer version Firefox supports microformats, whereby RSS feeds can be taken over directly into the mail program Outlook or Google's calendar. The open video formatOgg Theora is also supported.
