fire load

Fire load refers to the heat generated by the combustion of equipment and cables in buildings.

For cables, the heat of combustion refers to the energy released per unit length and is expressed in kWh/m or in MJ/m. Since cable sheaths are made of different materials, the total fire load of a building depends on the cumulative energy released.

The fire load must be taken into account when planning cable routes and cable ducts. If it exceeds permissible limits, appropriate measures must be taken to reduce it. This can be done by dividing the cables into several cable du cts or by routing them differently.
