A fallback switch is a switching function that is triggered within a network component. Modems, for example, have such a switching function with Adaptive Speed Leveling (ASL), which then trigger a fallback if certain transmission parameters prevent error-free transmission. The fallback itself can be such that the transmission path switches from the disturbed connection to an undisturbed one or that the data transmission rate is reduced.
