extended basic service set (WLAN) (EBSS)

In WLANs according to IEEE 802.11, a distinction is made between simple network constellations that operate without wireless access points ( WAP), the Basic Service Sets ( BSS), and the extended WLAN configurations with one or more wireless access points, the Extended Basic Service Sets (EBSS). The EBSS configurations are an extension of the simply structured Basic Service Sets. The EBSS sets can be used to set up more extensive WLAN configurations, known as infrastructure WLANs. The corresponding network mode is called Infrastructure mode.
