extended access control (nPA) (EAC)

Extended Access Control (EAC) is another security method, along with Password Authenticated Connection Establishment( PACE), for securing personal data on the electronic identity card(ePA).

The EAC protocol is the security protocol used for authentication between the microprocessor on the new ID card and the reader. The EAC protocol distinguishes between Chip Authentication and Terminal Authentication. This separation ensures that only authenticated readers can read the stored chip data. The RFID readers are authorized by means of a public key infrastructure( PKI).
