An error message is a visual or audible indication from a computer, device or system that errors or faulty functions have been detected.

Whereas a computer or program is usually concerned with a program error, a termination or crash of a program or operating system, or faulty data storage, error messages in networks are concerned with faulty network connections, the impairment or interruption of communication links, incorrectly transmitted data blocks, excessively long delay times, collisions on the transmission path, and inaccessible websites or web servers.

Error messages are recorded and documented by the network management system and sent to the administrator visually by means of a signal lamp, acoustically by means of a warning tone, as an input lock, by means of a legible notice on the display or by means of a short message service( SMS) on his mobile devices.
