error correction mode (ECM)

Error Correction Mode(ECM) is an error correction mode of operation in fax machines and modems.

This operating mode is located on the link layer and requires that both fax devices involved in the transmission support the error correction mode (ECM). In the procedure, faulty data packets are requested again. The procedure is specified in the ITU standards T.4 and T.30.
