erbium ytterbium doped fiber amplifier (EYDFA)

EYDFA, ErbiumYtterbium Doped Fiber Amplifier, is a further development of the EDFA technology. EYDFA, unlike EDFA, Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier, is doped with two chemical elements: Erbium (Er) and Ytterbium( Yb).

EYDFA is a technology for optical power amplifiers. While EDFA ampl ifiers use a pump laser and the core glass of single- mode fibers, EYDFA amplifiers use multimode pump technology. In multimode pumping technology, different wavelengths are coupled into the two cladding glasses - Double Clad Fiber( DCF) - of the single mode fiber. The cladding glasses have a cross-section many times larger than that of the core glass.

EYDFA amplifiers have a high output power of 17 dBm to 25 dBm and low noise. They can be operated in the wavelength range between 1,540 nm to 1,565 nm.
