entitlement management message (pay TV) (EMM)

Entitlement Management Messages (EMM) are private credentials that specify the authorization and access rights or services to which the user has access.

With these electronic credentials, an authenticated person can log in to a system or private service such as digital television, but he does not have to have unrestricted access to all services and functions.

Inconsumer electronics, EMM messages can be addressed to a single decoder or to multiple decoders and stored in the set-top box. The EMM messages are read out using a smart card.
