enterprise network (EN)

An enterprise network(EN) is a communications network via which employees can communicate with each other. Such a network, formerly also known as a corporate network( CN), connects work groups and departments across locations and countries.

Standardization of transmission technology and communications protocols improves interoperability between the devices used by employees and the IT and communications systems used in the company.

The infrastructural concept of corporate networks is local, transnational or international, depending on the location of the company's sites and those of its suppliers, so that any authorized person can access corporate data and communicate with other employees. Communication must be secure and take place with sufficient performance and data rate. Due to the wide-ranging infrastructure, corporate networks consist of local networks and wide- area networks. The integrated systems are data center IT systems, switching equipment and infrastructural security components. Devices include desktops at the workplace and mobile devices in the field.
