energy detect power down (802.3az) (EDPD)

Energy Detect Power Down (EDPD) is a power management mode of Energy Efficient Ethernet( EEE) according to IEEE 802.3az, others are Power Saving, Power Down and Slow Oscillator.

The EDPD mode is effective when autonegotiation is active and the connection is interrupted. Once EDPD mode is active, it shuts down all components on the physical layer( PHY) until the interface detects a signal again. In this mode, an energy saving of approx. 50 % is achieved.
