end cryptographic unit (encryption) (ECU)

An End Cryptographic Unit (ECU) is a device that performs cryptographic functions. Such a unit can be part of a larger system for which it provides security services. For the security infrastructure, an End Cryptographic Unit forms a simple security component with which management transactions can be performed.
