encryption control protocol (ECP)

The PPPWorking Group has developed the Encryption Control Protocol (ECP), a control protocol for encryption parameters over PPP connections, where only authorized devices can establish connections over the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). The ECP protocol resides at the data link layer of the OSI reference model and is responsible for negotiating and managing encryption on a PPP connection. The ECP protocol is described in RFC 1968.
