emulated LAN (ATM) (ELAN)
An Emulated LAN (ELAN) is a technique used in ATM networks to emulate Local Area Networks (LAN).
ATM networks and end stations can be connected to such a logical local network, an Ethernet or Token Ring, which is formed by mechanisms of LAN emulation. Conceptually, LAN emulation uses a client- server architecture consisting of a LAN Emulation Server( LES), LAN Emulation Clients( LEC), a Broadcast and Unknown Server( BUS) and a LAN Emulation Configuration Server ( LECS). Several ELANs specified by LAN Emulation can exist simultaneously in an ATM network.
