electronic wedge brake (automotive) (EWB)

The electronic wedge brake (EWB) is part of automotive technology and represents an implementation of X-by-Wire.

In the electronic wedge brake, the braking command is transmitted electronically by "brake by wire". The braking function is effected by an electric motor using the braking command to push a wedge-shaped brake pad between the brake disc and the brake caliper. During the braking process, the brake pad is pulled along by the brake disc like a wedge. At this stage, the electric motor prevents the wheels from locking.
