electronic transaction number (eTAN)
Like the other transaction procedures, the eTAN procedure is intended to make transactions more secure against phishing.
The eTAN is generated electronically by a TAN generator. This is a small TAN computer with a display that generates a transaction number (TAN) before each transaction and shows it on the display. However, a control number must be entered before the transaction number is generated. A similar procedure is used with the Bankey technology, in which the Bankey token generates a transaction number for the next transaction at the push of a button.
