Under U.S. law, electronic protected
health information (ePHI) is individualized information about a person's health that is generated, stored, transmitted, and received electronically. ePHI information includes all storage media and transmission media
with which protected health information can be stored and transmitted. There is quite a bit of protected health information that can also be presented in a person-neutral manner through anonymization. This includes the patient's name and address, date of birth, social security number and insurance number, telephone number, email address, and various biometric characteristics.
