electronic protected health information (ePHI)

Electronic Protected HealthInformation (ePHI), under U.S. law, is individualized information about an individual's health that is generated, stored, transmitted, and received electronically.

ePHI information includes all storage media and transmission media with which protected health information can be stored and transmitted.

There are quite a few pieces of protected health information that can also be presented in a person-neutral manner through anonymization. This includes the patient's name and address, date of birth, social security number and policy number, telephone number, email address, and various biometriccharacteristics.
