electronic procurement (eProcurement)

E-procurement is the electronic procurement of goods and services through the use of information technology, in particular Internet-based technologies.

E-procurement has been practiced for years using Electronic Data Interchange( EDI) with fixed standards and industry-specific approaches. It can refer to a relationship between one or more suppliers and one or more demanders, for example, as a purchasing platform from one supplier to several demanders or as an electronic marketplace( EM), business to business( B2B), where many suppliers meet many demanders.

E-procurement can be used meaningfully if the products are standardized and require no explanation. The aims of e-procurement are to accelerate ordering processes, improve procurement quality and reduce procurement costs.
