electronic news gathering (ENG)

Electronic News Gathering (ENG) belongs to the PMSE techniques, Program Making and Special Event (PMSE). It deals with the recording, acquisition, processing and distribution of current news.

ENG techniques include all measures and techniques for mobile image and sound recording and processing. It includes video cameras and microphones for recording technology, editing equipment for electronic editing, and tape recorders for recording, as well as facilities for transmission. This may be mobile recording equipment with which journalists record interviews or file reports. The range of technical equipment extends to OB vans for radio and television. ENG products include not only recording equipment, processing equipment and playback equipment, but also the corresponding accessories such as tripods, equipment cases, etc.

A special form of electronic reporting is Satellite News Gathering( SNG), which provides mobile satellite reporting via communications satellites.
