An electronic logging device (ELD) is an electronic unit installed in motor vehicles that records various driving parameters.
An electronic logging device records the start of the journey, the journey time, the loading and unloading times, the distance travelled and the speed at
which the vehicle is travelling. The ELD unit thus replaces the electronic trip recorders, Electronic On-Board Recorders
(EOBR), and the trip logbook used in the past. The ELDdata is stored in a standard format and is read out and analysed by the companies.
The ELD systems offer the companies optimum control over the use of the motor vehicle and the operating times. Accidents and absences can be precisely checked and clarified on the basis of the logging.
