electronic logging device (ELD)

An electronic logging device, Electronic Logging Device (ELD), is an electronic unit installed in motor vehicles that records various driving parameters.

An electronic logging device records the start of driving, driving time, loading times and unloading times, driving distance and driving speed. The ELD unit thus replaces the electronic tachograph, Electronic On-Board Recorder (EOBR), and trip logbook used in the past. The ELD data is stored in a standard format and is read and analyzed by the companies.

The ELD systems provide companies with optimal control over vehicle usage and hours of operation. Accidents and absences can be preciselychecked and clarified based on the logging.
