electromagnetic environment (EME)

Electromagnetic environment(EME) describes, in the context of electromagnetic compatibility( EMC), the sum of all electromagnetic disturbances caused by man or nature.

This includes electromagnetic pulses, hazards to humans, materials and equipment from electromagnetic radiation( EMR), as well as lightning discharge( LS) and static potentials.

The units of measurement are electric field strength (V/m), radiance (W/m2) or energy density (J/cbm, Joule/cubic meter). In telecommunications systems, an electromagnetic environment (EME) is the spatial distribution of electromagnetic fields surrounding a given area. The EME has a special significance in the military sector.
