electric/electronic/programmable electronic (E/E/PE)

E/E/PE stands for electrical/electronic/programmable electronic. This designation stands for the technology used, which can be electrical, electronic or programmable electronic.

According to the current state of the art, it is programmable electronic. They are usually embedded microprocessor systems. IEC 61508 describes possible hazards of an E/E/PE system in terms of functional safety reliability. With the safety levels dealt with in IEC 61508, the Safety Integrity Levels ( SIL), risks and hazards can be limited by design measures.
