edge-emitting light emitting diode (ELED)

Edge-LED is a backlighting of LED displays. With this technology, the LEDs for the backlight are mounted in the frame of the display and illuminate the entire display via a mirror system.

Edge-LED illumination is extremely uniform, but cannot be partially controlled. It is therefore not possible to backlight certain parts of the image more or less. The advantage of Edge-LED lies primarily in the extremely flat and cost-effective design of the screens.

In addition to Edge-LED illumination, there is also Full-LED, also called Direct-LED. This technology differs from the Edge-LED technology in the distribution of the LEDs behind the screen. With this technology, the LEDs are evenly distributed over the screen surface and can be controlled locally, local dimming; which increases the dynamics of the image display.
