Echo location is a technique used in robotics to determine the exact position of objects.
With this technique, the position of an object can be determined via an echo signal. The basis for the localization is the propagation time required by the emitted signal and the reflected echo signal to reach the position of the object and back. The robot calculates the exact position of the object from the signal propagation time for the outward and return paths. Echo location is used for pick-and-place tasks, among others. These are repetitive pick-and-place operations with subsequent set-down operations.
