dynamic range

In electronic circuitry, certain passive but especially active electronic components such as diodes, thyristors and transistors can only be controlled with a certain maximum permissible voltage or current.

Control range of an active component

Control range of an active component

If the control voltage exceeds the linear modulation range, the corresponding component or the quadripole operates in the non-linear range, which leads to distortion of the signal shape. Within the dynamic range is the operating point, which is located on a characteristic curve or a set of characteristic curves.
