dynamic multi-pathing (path control) (DMP)

Dynamic Multi-Pathing(DMP) is a path control method that optimizes configuration and routing in storage networks. DMP path control is an automatic process for backing up data and restoring it.

The DMP process was developed specifically for storage networks and responds to interruptions in the connections with recovery times of fractions of a second. These extremely short interruption times are crucial, as otherwise a system crash is imminent.

Due to the topology of storage networks, which used to consist of a single storage unit connected to a host, but now consists of several different storage units, Dynamic Multi-Pathing ensures that data is rerouted via alternative connection paths.
