Dubbing is the English term for the technique of dubbing, more correctly for doubling. The dubbing technique is used for dubbing but also for improving the signal-to-noise ratio
and for special effects. Dubbing is the process of mixing several existing audio tracks into one, thereby freeing up audio tracks for d
ubbing. Forexample, if an audio recording occupies four of four audio tracks, then dubbing allows two audio tracks at a time to be mixed together into a new one, leaving two free audio tracks after dubbing.
When dubbing videotapes, only the audio track is erased and re-recorded.
The picture track and the track for dubbing remain untouched during audio dubbing. Overdubbing is when an additional audio track is recorded while simultaneously listening to the other audio tracks.
