A document architecture is a structure model for electronically stored documents
. The document structure model is used to exchange stored documents between end devices and to process them further at the recipient 's. This requires a standardization of the document architecture as well as the content formats and exchange formats used, which is given with the open OSI-based Open Document Architecture (ODA) and with Open Document Interchange Format (ODIF). In addition, there are proprietary, manufacturer-specific architectures such as the Document Content Architecture (DCA) and the Document Interchange Architecture (DIA) from IBM.
