distinguished encoding rule (DER)

The Distinguished Encoding Rules (DER) are a subset of the Basic Encoding Rules (BER). They are written in Abstract Syntax Notation One ( ASN.1) and define the data as a stream for transmission or storage as a stream of bits. Each ASN.1 object corresponds to only one DER encoding.
