In directional operation, data is transmitted in one direction. This operating mode is called simplex operation.
Directional operation occurs when a sender sends data or information to one, several, or many receivers and they cannot respond on the same channel. This is the case with broadcasting, radio and television, but also with the uplinks and downlinks of a satellite connection or the upstream and downstream.
