direction of arrival (antenna) (DoA)

Direction of Arrival (DoA) or Angle of Arrival(AoA) is a function of directional antenna arrays and smart antennas, with which they determine the direction from which the received electromagnetic wave comes.

One technique used for DoA is called Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) and uses an algorithm to calculate the direction from the various received signals. Other techniques that work with the peak value of the spectrum and differ in the algorithms are Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Techniques( ESPRIT) and the Matrix-Pencil-Method.

The DoA technique is used, among other things, to determine the position of objects in mobile networks. It can be used to superimpose location-based services( LBS) on the smartphone display.
