direct outward dialing (DOD)

Direct Outward Dialing (DOD) is a teleservice provided by an operating company that allows subscribers to dial directly to the outside world from their PBXs

. Direct Outward Dialing allows employees or connected computers

to dial directly to the desired outside party without going through an attendant. Direct Outward Dialing is often combined with Direct Inward Dialing (DID).

It saves switching effort and costs and allows the relevant employees to be connected quickly to the desired communication partner. DOD systems can be used equally for telephone, fax and Internet services.
