direct outward dialing (DOD)

Direct Outward Dialing (DOD) is a teleservice provided by an operating company that allows subscribers to dial directly to the outside world from their PBXs.

With Direct Outward Dialing, employees or connected computers can dial the desired outside party directly, without having to go through a switchboard operator to make the connection.

Direct Outward Dialing is often combined with Direct Inward Dialing( DID). It saves switching effort and costs, and provides the appropriate employees with the ability to be quickly connected to the desired communication partner. DOD systems can be used equally for telephone, fax and Internet services.
