direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC)

The direct methanol fuel cell, DMFC, is a low-temperature fuel cell that operates at approximately 100 °C.

Like the PEMFC fuel cell, the DMFC fuel cell has a polymer membrane as the electrolyte. Unlike the PEMFC fuel cell, which operates with hydrogen as the anode gas, the DMFC fuel cell operates with methanol, which is converted into protons, free electrons and carbon dioxide in the electrolyte. The efficiency of the DMFC fuel cell is less than 40 %.
