The Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) is a low-temperature
fuel cell that operates at about 100 °C. The DMFC has a polymer membrane as electrolyte, like the PEMFC fuel cell. Like the PEMFC fuel cell, the DMFC fuel cell has a polymer membrane as the electrolyte. Unlike the PEMFC fuel cell, which works with hydrogen as the anode gas, the DMFC fuel cell works with methanol, which is converted into protons, free electrons and carbon dioxide in the electrolyte. The efficiency of the DMFC fuel cell is less than 40 %.
