digitally controlled amplifier (DCA)

A Digitally Controlled Amplifier(DCA) is a digitally controlled analog amplifier. In a digitally controlled amplifier, the transmission behavior of the amplifier is determined by digital signals.

The analog input signal is available at the amplifier output as an amplified output signal. The gain control itself is digital and can be varied by changing the resistor values in the feedback loop. The overall gain range can be designed to provide both amplified and attenuated input signals at the output.

Digitally Controlled Amplifiers are used in digitalsynthesizers and in mixer consoles.
