digital transmission copy protection (DTCP)

DigitalTransmission Copy Protection (DTCP) is copy protection for content when it is transmitted from one device to another over FireWire or another interface in a home network or in automobiles.

DTCP provides four levels of protection in the form of copy control information( CCI), device authentication and key exchange (AKE), content encryption and decryption, and system renewability.

The method was developed by a working group of Intel, Hitachi, Matsushita, Sony and Toshiba (5C Group) in 1998 and is used under license in the IT, consumer electronics and film industries.
