digital signature standard (DSA) (DSS)

The Digital Signature Standard(DSS) is a signature method used to generate and verify digitalsignatures.

The DSS standard was developed in 1994 by the National Institute of Standards and Technology( NIST) and consists of the Digital Signature Algorithm ( DSA), the RSA procedure and the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm( ECDSA). The signature procedure is based on the ElGamal algorithm and the SHA algorithm (SHA-1). The Digital Signature Standard is free to use, the design is not published.

The Digital Signature Standard (DSS) is a public encryption method that is used exclusively to generate digital signatures and cannot be used for decryption.
