digital receiver

Digital TV is transmitted as DVB-T via terrestrial networks, as DVB-C via cable distribution networks and as DVB-S via satellite. Regardless of the type of transmission and the frequency ranges used for it, the transmitted RF signals are received, mixed and demodulated by a digital receiver. A digital receiver is therefore a receiving device for digital television. Such a receiver can be integrated in the television set, but it can also operate as an independent reception component and process the digitally modulated RF signals for the television set.

Digital receivers, depending on the service for which they are designed, can have control functions for the control of the satellite antennas, the multiswitches and the LNB converters, they can be equipped with decoder cards for pay TV, as well as with decoding functions and security functions for the protection of minors. Reception is not limited to digital TV, but also to digital broadcasting such as Digital Audio Broadcast( DAB) and DRM radio. They are equipped with microprocessors and semiconductor memories for the allocation of broadcast slots, have their own menu control, support the electronic program guide( EPG) and can interpret program-associated data( PAD).

Modern digital receivers have interfaces familiar from personalcomputers, such as the USB interface, or can be connected directly to the residential Ethernet( RE).

Digital receivers have control signals with which the received frequency band and the polarization plane of the receiving microwave signal can be changed. The switching of the polarization plane is done with a 14/18 V DC voltage, the switching of the frequency band with the 22 kHz control signal, the motor control for rotatable antennas is specified in Digital Satellite Equipment Control( DiSEqC).
