digital picture exchange (DPX)

The DigitalPicture Exchange (DPX) provides film and studio production with a standard exchange format

for processing visual effects. The DPX exchange format is primarily used for the transfer of color information. It allows uncompressed audio and video files to be transported and used by other studio equipment.

The DPX format consists of individual pixel images and is independent of their resolution.

It was standardized in 1994 by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) under SMPTE 268M-2003.
