digital loop carrier (DLC)

A Digital LoopCarrier (DLC) is a system with which the range

in the access area can be increased. Digital Loop Carrier is used on the telephone cables between the local exchange

and the subscriber line. For this purpose, the analog signals to be transmitted from several subscriber lines are digitized and multiplexed into a data stream. Typically, 24 voice signals are combined into one signal and transmitted to the local exchange via a copper twisted pair, an optical fibre

or a radio link. The DLC lines can transmit telephone cables of analoguetelephony (POTS) as well as ISDN and DSL procedures.
