Like Simple Power Analysis (SPA), Differential Power Analysis (DPA) is a cryptanalysis method that can be used to determine the encryption ofsmartcards or other encryption components and to derive the secret key. The DPA method differs from the SPA method in that it taps voltage levels at various pins and subjects them to statistical analysis. The analysis shows the computational effort over time, and the encryption method and secret key are derived from this.
