differential fault analysis (DFA)

Differential Fault Analysis (DFA) is a differential fault analysis used totest the reliability of cryptographic algorithms on smart cards or other encryption components.

In the DFA process, errors are interspersed during encryption for test purposes. These can be, for example, changes in the supply voltage or the system clock. The error-manipulated test results are correlated with the correct results and the resulting bit differences are used to draw conclusions about the encryption method and the secret key. The DFA method can be used to test all encryption algorithms.
