dial-up Internet access

Dial-up Internet access is the classic form of Internet access by means of dial-up via the public switched telephone network( PSTN). A connection to the Internet service provider( ISP) is set up via a dial-up line. At the user 's end, a modem converts the data packets and control information into analogtones.

Dial-up connections are often time-limited and can be terminated by the user, the telephone company or the Internet service provider.

Classic dial-up Internet access is used wherever a telephone network is available and where DSL technology, broadband cable or microwave solutions are not yet available. For example, in sparsely populated areas or in countries that are not yet equipped with more modern technology.
