diagnostic rhyme test (speech quality) (DRT)

The Diagnostic Rhyme Test (DRT) is a measurement of subjective speech intelligibility that dates back to the 1950s.

The DRT procedure is concerned with the intelligibility of consonants, testing rhyming words such as "dense and tense". The English-language test includes 96 pairs of words that rhyme and differ in initial consonant.

In the DRT test, the listener hears only one word and marks the word he thinks he heard on the test sheet, on which two rhyming words are written in each case. The results are summed and evaluated. An improved version of the Diagnostic Rhyme Test is the Modified Rhyme Test (MRT).
